Thermal Turbo Blankets

The new IPD Thermal Performance Turbo Blankets are specifically designed to increase power and boost response by insulating and containing critical exhaust energy that expedites exhaust flow through turbos. Thermal blankets are designed to contain heat inside the exhaust system where it is most effective without exceeding critical EGT thresholds. Wrapping the turbine hot housings decreases convective heat transfer from underbody air. While this may seem counter intuitive from a durability standpoint it is crucial for performance.

This thermal energy is what drives the turbine wheel through isentropic expansion. Containing the heat more effectively increases it's potential. Elevating exhaust temperatures increases the inlet energy and therefore turbine work. The core principal of a turbocharger is that turbine work equals compressor work, as they are coupled by a shaft. Obviously more compressor energy will provide improved boost pressure and power, and the Otto cycle continues.

Each IPD Thermal Performance Blanket is manufactured to exacting specs to ensure a tailored fit for each specific turbo hot housing application. As with all IPD products, only the highest grade materials and quality craftsmanship are utilized in our manufacturing processes. Our proprietary multi layered construction combines inconel, ceramic and stainless steel. The internal layers are then wrapped in a carbon fiber style outer protective weave for added good looks and extended durability. The 996 Turbo came originally equipped with K16 turbos on all standard models while the 996 Turbo S, X50 and GT2 packages benefited from slightly larger K24 turbos. Please specify either K16's or K24's when placing your turbo thermal blanket order for factory Turbos.
