The 997 GT3/RS has proven to be quite the challenge for after-market tuners looking to develop additional power and torque for this turn key iconic track meister. IPD has taken notes from the 997 GT3 RSR and applied it's new thermal blanket technology to create another power through efficiency product.
The new IPD Thermal Performance Blankets (TPB) are specifically designed to increase power by insulating and containing critical exhaust energy that expedites exhaust flow through headers. Thermal blankets are designed to contain heat inside the exhaust system where it is most effective without exceeding critical EGT thresholds. Wrapping the primaries (headers) decreases convective heat transfer from underbody air. While this may seem counter intuitive from a durability standpoint it is crucial for performance.
The GT3/RS factory headers are so good "right out of the box" they are utilized on all GT3 Cup cars where they have been torture tested in many 24 hour endurance events. Of course there is room for improved exhaust performance with some of the higher quality after-market exhaust systems but they don't come cheap. The insulated headers found on the nearly half-million dollar RSR's have a price tag that's in-line with the staggering price of the car. The IPD GT3/RS Thermal Header Blanket delivers impressive power and torque gains at a fraction of the price by insulating the factory headers. Performance gains are realized throughout the entire power band but the bulk of the gains are found from 5,000-8,000 RPM with max gains of 14 WHP and 11 foot pounds of torque at 6700 RPM.
A side benefit of the TPB's is the reduction in engine bay temperatures, which helps preserve electronic and organic components further extending vehicle longevity and reliability. This is especially critical with highly modified cars that experience daily street driving. Elaborate and expensive thermal containment systems have been extensively utilized and proven in virtually all top tier levels of motorsports with both forced induction and naturally aspirated applications for decades.
Each IPD Thermal Performance Blanket is manufactured to exacting specs to ensure a tailored fit for 997 GT3 header. As with all IPD products, only the highest grade materials and quality craftsmanship are utilized in our manufacturing processes. Our proprietary multi layered construction combines inconel, ceramic and stainless steel. The internal layers are then wrapped in a carbon fiber style outer protective weave for added good looks and extended durability. All TPB's are made in the USA and come with a full 1 year manufacturers warranty.
The new 997 GT3/RS Thermal Blankets (which fit both .1 and .2 GT3 variants) are currently available, retail for $995 and easily install without the removal of any exhaust or bumpers. Please drop us an e-mail or give us a call for more information, find an IPD dealer near you or to place an order.
